About Construction Bros
Professional-grade construction calculators. Free. No download. No signup.
Our Mission
Every year, thousands of contractors, builders, and DIY homeowners overspend on materials, miscut lumber, or fail building inspections because of simple math errors. Professional construction calculators like the Construction Master Pro cost over $90, and most free online calculators are ad-stuffed, inaccurate, or missing the features that tradespeople actually need.
We built Construction Bros to solve that problem. Our calculators are free, run entirely in your browser, and deliver the same precision as handheld construction calculators costing $90 or more. No account required, no data collected, no installation needed — just open the page and start calculating.
Whether you're a licensed contractor framing a custom home, a carpenter cutting rafters on a job site, or a homeowner planning a deck project, our tools give you accurate, code-compliant answers in seconds.
Who We Are
Construction Bros was founded by construction industry professionals who got tired of paying for calculator apps that should be free. Our team combines decades of hands-on trade experience with software engineering expertise to build tools that work the way builders actually think.
We understand that when you're on a job site, you need answers fast. You need a stair calculator that checks IRC code compliance automatically. You need a rafter calculator that handles hip, valley, and jack rafters — not just common rafters. You need a concrete calculator that tells you exactly how many 80-pound bags to buy.
That's why every calculator we build starts with the question: “What would a contractor actually need on a Thursday afternoon at a job site?”
How Our Calculators Are Built
Accuracy is not optional in construction. A 1/4-inch error on a riser height can fail a building inspection. A miscalculated rafter length wastes expensive lumber. That's why we take a rigorous, engineering-driven approach to every calculator:
- Building code compliance: Our stair, baluster, and rafter calculators reference the International Residential Code (IRC) and International Building Code (IBC) directly. We check dimensions against code limits and flag violations automatically, so you don't get surprised at inspection.
- Exact fractional arithmetic: Unlike calculators that round to the nearest decimal, our math engine uses exact fractional arithmetic (numerator/denominator pairs with GCD normalization). When you enter 3 feet 7-1/2 inches, the result is precise to the fraction — no floating-point rounding errors.
- Industry-standard formulas: Every formula is sourced from recognized construction references: the IRC/IBC code books, the Roof Framer's Bible, Swanson Speed Square manual, and standard trade mathematics. We don't guess at formulas — we use the same math that experienced framers and engineers use.
- Comprehensive test suites: Every calculation engine has dozens of automated tests that verify results against known values. Our stair calculator alone has 57 unit tests covering riser optimization, code compliance, stringer geometry, headroom clearance, and edge cases. Across the entire suite, we maintain over 390 passing tests.
- Peer-reviewed by tradespeople: Before any calculator launches, working contractors and carpenters test it against real-world scenarios. If the numbers don't match what experienced builders expect, we go back and fix it.
What We Offer
Our growing suite of construction calculators covers the most common calculations that contractors and builders need daily:
- Framing calculators: stairs, rafters (hip/valley/jack), balusters, rake walls, and more
- Material estimation: concrete volume and bag counts, drywall sheets, paint coverage, lumber board feet
- Angle and miter calculations: compound miter and bevel angles, roof pitch conversion
- Construction math: feet-inches-fractions arithmetic, board foot calculations
Every calculator includes a detailed how-to guide explaining the underlying math, building code requirements, and practical tips from the field. We don't just give you a number — we help you understand why that number is correct.
Privacy and Trust
All calculations run entirely in your browser. We never send your measurements, project details, or calculation results to any server. Your data stays on your device, period.
We use Google Analytics to understand which calculators are most popular and how we can improve the site, but we never collect personally identifiable information. Read our Privacy Policy for full details.
Construction Bros is reader-supported. When you purchase tools or materials through our affiliate links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This revenue helps us keep the calculators free and ad-light. We only recommend products that working tradespeople actually use. See our Affiliate Disclosure for more information.
